Ohuhu markers are a very popular and economical alternative to Copic Markers so I wanted to see how they performed. These markers are not as expensive as Copics, Winsor Newton, Blick Studio, and other big name brands. Ohuhu markers are dye based alcohol markers and like all dye based markers they are not very lightfast. For those who want to try out some of these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon Affiliate links down below including my UK and Canada links.
These markers come in a black cloth zippered case and are available in sets of 40, 60, 80, and 100. They are not available open stock. Therefore if you need to replace a color, you have to buy a new set. However, these markers break down to about 49 cents a piece as opposed to $5 to $7 per marker for the more expensive brands.
I purchased the set of 80 markers two years ago. There is a pretty good selection of colors, but this set is a little more heavy with greens and blues. The new sets for 2018 are about the same, but there are a few new different colors.
The Ohuhu markers come with a fine tip nib and a broad chisel tip. The barrel of the first generation markers was sort of square and had a number and color name on the cap. The newest generation of Ohuhu markers is more oval and just has a number on the cap.
I swatched out the reds, yellows, blues, and greens. The colors are bright and vivid.
The next group that I swatched was the purples, browns, flourescent colors, pastels, and greys. I would like to have seen a few more lighter brown colors. There might be more in the 100 marker set. At the time I purchased these markers the 100 set was not available or I would have gotten it. The set of 40 costs around $19.99, the set of 60 runs around $29.99, the 80 set is $37.99, and the 100 set is $49.99 on Amazon.
Doodlin ' Time!
'Little Witch'
by Ellie Taylor
On Canson card stock, I drew a picture of a little girl dressed up like a witch . I used the lighter pink and orange colors for the flesh tones. I also used blues and greens for the costume and added purple trim. These markers blend together very well. Perhaps not quite as smooth as Copics, Winsor Newton, or other high priced markers, but very close. It seemed to me that these markers did bleed a little bit more than than the higher priced brands. However, I would say that these markers are great for adult coloring books, sketch books, or even finished pieces. They are also a very economical alternative to those who are just starting out with alcohol markers or hobbyists and don't want to spend a lot of money.
