My Thoughts on Chameleon Colored Pencils.

The Chameleon art brand is known mostly for its double-toned alcohol markers. However, did you know that they also have double-toned colored pencils? So how could they make colored pencils with double-tones? Read further and find out! For those who want to try out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon and Blick Art Materials affiliate links down below.

Here is the 25 pencil/50 color set of Chameleon colored pencils. As you can see on the box cover, each pencil has a different color on either end.

The back of the box has the colors of the pencils in the set and information about them. There is also a website link listed where you can find tutorials on how to use these pencils.

Cutie Boots thought the box made a good tent!

When the box is open you can see that each pencil has a double end and there is a color chart at the bottom. The colors on each pencil are closely related shades. The color names and numbers are listed on each pencil. Currently this 25 pencil set is the only one for sale and it retails on Amazon and Blick Art Materials for around $28. These pencils are available open stock, but very hard to find.

Doodlin ' Time !

I swatched each pencil and both of its colors. There are 50 different colors in this set and each pencil is designed for its colors to blend together. For example, Azure and Electric Blue are a darker and lighter blue that blend together in a nice gradient. These are waxed based colored pencils and have a soft core.

'Barn Sketch'

by Ellie Taylor

I did a quick color sketch of a barn scene with a fence. I really liked that I didn't have to search for a similar color, instead I just flipped the pencil around and voila, there was the matching shade. The cores were almost as soft as Prismacolors and they blended really well. The lightfastness rating on these is not available so maybe these should be just used for hobbyists in coloring books or sketch journals. Basically projects that don't need to be lightfast.

In summary, I really liked these Chameleon colored pencils because it is easier to make gradients with them and I like the soft cores. I would really like to see some bigger sets with more colors and good lightfastness ratings.
