Amazon has decided to get into art supplies manufacturing and they have come out with their own line of colored pencils. They are called Amazon Basics Colored Pencils and they are budget friendly. For those who are interested in trying out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon affiliate links down below.
Last year I purchased the set of 72 for around $20. Currently only the 24 set is available for around $10. Hopefully they will renew their stock. These pencils are not available open stock.
On the back of the tin it shows all of the colors included.
There are two tiers of colored pencils and the first tier has yellows, reds, oranges, purples, and blues.
Cutie Boots inspected the first tier while I photographed the second one.
The second tier has greens, browns, greys, black, and metallics.
Doodlin' Time!
The colors are a good selection and metallics are included. Each pencil has a color name and number on it. The colors are a medium intensity. These pencils are wax based.
'Bird Sketch'
by Ellie Taylor
I made a quick sketch of a bird using gray, blue, orange, and brown colors. The black was not as dark as some brands and the colors were not as vibrant as other brands such as Prismacolors. There are no lightfast ratings for these so they probably are not very lightfast. The pencil cores are not as soft as Prismacolors or even Castle Art pencils. I would say that the color brightness is comparable to the Castle Art colored pencils. I used 3 or 4 layers of colored pencil on the bird. You have to press sort of hard to get a more intense color.
Since they are not lightfast, I don't think they would be good for professional work.
I would say that the Amazon Basics colored pencils are good budget pencils for coloring or sketching. I like them for quick sketches.
