Prismacolor Watercolor Pencils

Prismacolor is known for its regular wax based colored pencils, but they have recently introduced a new product line with their Premier Watercolor Pencils. Let's see what those are like. For those who want to try out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Amazon and Misterart affiliate links down below.

So far they only have sets of 12, 24, and 36 colors. I purchased the set of 36 colors for around $28. Currently this 36 set is available for around $46 on Misterart.com.

On the back of the tin the colors in the set are listed.

When I opened the tin I could see 3 tiers of pencils in this set. (Wait, don't eat them, Cutie Boots! ) These pencils have a wooden casing with the color names and numbers on them.

Tier 1 has a selection of basic colors of red, green, yellow, blue, browns, and black.

The second tier has purples, blues, greys, greens, and pink.

The third tier has more pinks, blues, browns, and cream. They don't seem to be arranged according to any color families.

Doodlin ' Time !

The pigment on the Prismacolor watercolor pencils is very bright and vivid. The pigment dissolves very well when water is added. Most of these colors have a fairly high degree of lightfastness.

'Peacock Feather'

by Ellie Taylor

One of the colors was called Peacock Blue so I decided to sketch a peacock feather. Using a water brush, I dissolved the first layer of color and made it look like a watercolor wash. Then for fine details I added more undissolved pigment in another layer.

These watercolor pencils are good for layering and they have a soft core. I was really impressed by the vividness of the colors and how well the pigment dissolved when water was applied. I think these Prismacolor watercolor pencils are professional quality and I just wish they came in bigger sets.

Hmph! Everybody is a critic, Haha! (Incidentally that's Possum's foot.)
