Testing the Black Widow Colored Pencils

Budget friendly colored pencils are very popular for adult coloring and there are a lot of new brands out there. One of the new popular brands is the Black Widow series. For those who want to try out these pencils for themselves, I have included my Amazon affiliate links down below.

Black Widow colored pencils come in a tin of 24 with a picture of big spider on the front. I purchased this tin for around $17.

Cutie Boots says, "That's a BIG spider!" .

Inside the lid all the colors are listed with their names. The names are flowers, bugs, and lots of other things so you need to use this for a color reference.

These pencils come with black wood, hence the name Black Widow. The pencils have a name and number stamped on them.

The colors in this set are mostly shades of primary colors. They are nicely pigmented and they have a medium soft wax core. I would compare the wax core to the Amazon Basics colored pencils, although I think the colors of the Black Widow pencils are more vivid. There doesn't seem to be any lightfastness info on these, so they are probably best used in coloring books and journaling.

'Prickly Pear Cactus'

by Ellie Taylor

I made a quick sketch of a prickly pear cactus with a yellow flower. I was able to get about six layers of pigment on the flower. The darker colors covered the lighter colors very well.

In conclusion, I think these are great for hobbyists because they are vivid in color, but very affordable.

There are four more sets in this brand with additional colors. There are two more sets of 24 and these are the Scorpion and Cobra sets. Then there are two sets of skin tones: one dark and one light with 12 pencils in each set.
