Blick Art Materials are always developing new products that are nice quality, but also budget friendly. I have tried their Blick Studio alcohol markers and really liked them, so I wanted to try out the Blick Studio wax colored pencils. For those who want to try out these supplies for themselves, I have included my Blick Art Materials affiliate links down below.
I bought the tin of 72 colored pencils for around $50. They also come in sets of 12, 24, 36, and 48. There are also additional colors in a grey set, landscape set, and a portrait set. Also, Blick Studio colored pencils are now available open stock for $1.25 a piece.
On the back of the tin there was the list of colors in the set and information about all the available sets.
There was two tiers of pencils in the tin. The first tier had yellows, reds, oranges, and blues.
Cutie Boots wanted to try out some of the orange colors.
In the second tier there was greens, browns, greys, and black.
I also purchased the 12 piece grey set of Blick Studio colored pencils. The grey set had 12 shades in it and some of these are not included in the 72 set. This set retails for around $9 on Blick Art Materials.
The back of this set also has the shades of grey listed on the tin.
This set of greys included warm and cool greys.

There is a good selection of colors in the 72 set. I think there are 96 colors total in this line. The colors are medium intensity and if you want a darker color you have to press down fairly hard. The wax cores are harder than Prismacolor pencils. The Blick Art Studio colored pencils are mostly lightfast or light resistant.
'Old Fence Post'
by Ellie Taylor
I sketched a quick landscape scene with an old fence post in the foreground. I liked that there was a nice range of colors suited for landscape painting. I did have to press harder to get darker values, but I was able to get six or seven layers. I could have gotten more if I had wanted to make a more detailed picture.
I think that these colored pencils would be okay for professional work because they have pretty good lightfastness. I will say that because they have a harder core, Blick Studio pencils aren't quite as easy to use as Prismacolors or Polychromos pencils (at least for me). However, they are a good price and are a nice brand for hobbyists or professionals.
